Independence Day Celebrations

Yesterday the girls celebrated India's independence day with the school they teach at, and a local disabled children's school. It was a great day full of dances, dress up, recitals, raising of the flag and songs.

Kerry distributing sweets, which is a tradition on Independence Day.
Kerry: "Independence day has been a roller coaster for me! This morning we visited the school and were welcomed so much. It was nice to see the children, we have all grown so close to them. Then we went to the disabled children's school and that was beautiful. All had either physical or mental disabilities yet all had a smile on their face! It was a lovely day - and I also had my A Level results which made it an even better day as I got into my chosen university!"

Lucy: "Two of the older girls came and gave us red tika's and flower necklaces. We felt so welcomed! All the kids were smiling and waving at us from where they were sitting. The whole morning just felt so special!"
Alex and the girls.
Alex: "The celebrations with all the saris and dances was beautiful - as were the lovely hand made flower necklace we were given, we felt very privileged!"
A rich, exciting and full day that the girls will remember for a long time. So, for the 15th of August, Happy Independence Day India!
