Raksha Bandhan Festival

Today the girls celebrated Raksha Bandhan Festival at the destitute boys home with the new addition of 7 Australian volunteers! Raksha Bandhan festival is a Hindu festival meaning 'the bond of protection' and it celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters.  The ceremony involves the tying of a 'rakhi'  (sacred thread) by a sister on her brothers wrist.
Kerry: "It was so nice to take part in the Raksha Bandhan festival. Especially because it makes the boys feel special and a part of the festival when they either don't have sisters or can't be with them on that day. The process just highlights that at the destitute boys home they are a family and now we too feel a part of that family"

Lucy: "This morning at the destitute boys home was so special. We gave every boy thread bracelets and sweets as part of a brother-sister festival - Raksha Bandhan. The boys were so happy to see us and really enjoyed photo time afterwards!"
